Since I had already installed the Morimoto headlights, I figured it would be a good time to update the tail lights to the C8 style Morimoto. I bought the lights with a July 4th discount from vette-lights.com, which turned out to be a good deal. It took me about 3 hours total, but a lot of that was due to me filming a YouTube video at the same time, which is linked at the bottom of the page. It isn’t difficult at all once you get past the trepidation of breaking the bumper cover loose from the mounting tabs. Once you see how everything connects, it makes it much easier to reinstall the cover. I would recommend having a helper for this, but I managed to get it back together.
For my setup, I opted for the startup sequence and sequential turn signals to match the headlights. It is cool that you can change the options (no startup sequence, flashing turn signal indicators) whenever you want, just by popping off the bezels and making your wiring changes. The result is exactly what I was looking for, which is the smoked look and bright intensity when the lights are needed. It modernizes the rear end and allows me to get the blackout look I wanted without having to use acrylic smoked covers. Job done!
Just a quick noteāif you decide to do the install the same way I did by sliding the bumper cover back, be sure to protect your polished tailpipes. To avoid scratches, either wrap the metal mounting tabs with tape or use microfiber towels around the pipes during the process.
